Cabaret (Jill Haworth)
Meine Damen und Herren
Mesdames et Messieurs
Ladies and Gentlemen
Und now once again, Fräulein Sally Bowles
What good is sitting alone in your room?
Come hear the music play
Life is a cabaret, old chum
Come to the cabaret
Put down the knitting, the book, and the broom
Time for a holiday
Life is a cabaret, old chum
Come to the cabaret
Come taste the wine
Come hear the band
Come blow your horn, start celebrating
Right this way, your table's waiting
No use permitting some prophet of doom
To wipe every smile away
Life is a cabaret, old chum
Come to the cabaret
I used to have a girlfriend known as Elsie
With whom I shared four sordid rooms in Chelsea
She wasn't what you'd call a blushing flower
As a matter of fact she rented by the hour
The day she died the neighbors came to snicker:
"Well, that's what comes of too much pills and liquor"
But when I saw her laid out like a queen
She was the happiest corpse I'd ever seen
I think of Elsie to this very day
I remember how she'd turn to me and say:
What good is sitting alone in your room?
Come hear the music play
Life is a cabaret, old chum
Come to the cabaret
Put down the knitting, the book, and the broom
Time for a holiday
Life is a cabaret, old chum
Come to the cabaret
And as for me
As for me
I made my mind up back in Chelsea
When I go, I'm going like Elsie
Start by admitting from cradle to tomb
Isn't that long a stay
Life is a cabaret, old chum
Only a cabaret, old chum
And I love a cabaret

Just when I'd stopped opening doors
Finally knowing the one that I wanted was yours
Making my entrance again with my usual flair
Sure of my lines
No one is there
Don't you love farce?
My fault, I fear
I thought that you'd want what I want - sorry, my dear
But where are the clowns?
Quick, send in the clowns
Don't bother, they're here
But where are the clowns
There ought to be clowns
Well, maybe next year ▲ Collapse | | | wherestip Estados Unidos da América Local time: 07:35 Chinês para Inglês + ... Les Misérables at the Oscars | May 19, 2013 |

And let a winner lead the way?
Here's where we separate the notes from the noise
The men from the boys
The rose from the poison ivy
Back in the bunch, I came up with a hunch
This was your up-and-at-'em day
It's one of those spells when you hear the right bells
And your horoscope tells you to say:
Ha! Will everyone here kindly step to the rear
And let a winner lead the way?
I hear those troops begin to blare
And now I'm Washington upon the Delaware
Will everyone here kindly step to the rear
And let a winner lead the way?
Here's where we separate the duck from the quack
The ace from the pack
The pip from the McIntoshes
Back in the group, I came up with a scoop
This was the time to rise and say:
I've got in my eye such a jubilant sky
That the Fourth of July will seem gray
Will everyone here kindly step to the rear
And let a winner lead the way?
As our investments begin to grow
To quote from Davy Crockett at the Alamo:
Will everyone here kindly step to the rear
And let a winner lead the way?
A leader
Hooray!
And hup!
Hup! two, three, four …
Back in the group, I came up with a scoop
This was the time to rise and say:
I've got in my eye such a jubilant sky
That the Fourth of July will seem gray
Will everyone here kindly step to the rear
And let a winner lead the way?
There he goes, and boy, it shows ya
Up on your toes, you can't go astray
So get in step behind a rep for vim and pep
And sheer old-fashioned guts and gumption
Caviar and pheasant for dinner
A winner will lead the way
Back in the bunch, I came up with a hunch

O Beautiful for spacious skies
For amber waves of grain
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain
America, America

And crown thy good with brotherhood

That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears

Seventy-Six Trombones (Craig Bierko)
Seventy-six trombones led the big parade
With a hundred and ten cornets close at hand
They were followed by rows and rows of the finest virtuosos
The cream of every famous band
Seventy-six trombones caught the morning sun
With a hundred and ten cornets right behind
There were more than a thousand reeds springing up like weeds
There were horns of every shape and kind
There were copper bottom tympani in horse platoons
Thundering, thundering all along the way
Double bell euphoniums and big bassoons
Each bassoon having its big, fat say
There were fifty mounted cannon in the battery
Thundering, thundering louder than before
Clarinets of every size, and trumpeters who'd improvise
A full octave higher than the score
Seventy-six trombones led the big parade
With a hundred and ten cornets right behind
There were more than a thousand reeds springing up like weeds
There were horns of every shape and kind
Seventy six trombones hit the counterpoint
While a hundred and ten cornets blazed away
To the rhythm of Harch! Harch! Harch! all the kids began to march
And they're marching still right today ▲ Collapse | | | pkchan Estados Unidos da América Local time: 08:35 Membro (2006) Inglês para Chinês + ... Serenade to Spring | Jun 9, 2013 |

Ronald Reagan on Broadway theater:
Thank you. Thank you all for a marvelous concert. You managed to include some of my favorite memories of the theater, times when an audience got to its feet and applauded a showstopper because, well we just couldn't help it. We were part of that magic that sometimes happens. Theater is ancient, powerful, and irresistible. New York, Beijing, Berlin, you name it. People want that magic. People sit together and realize how much they share, and how much they have in common. I said that I remember being in audiences where the show was stopped by a great number. Well, as I look at this experience with young company, I realize I've been privileged to be in those audiences a lot longer than any of you. Well, with one possible exception: I can remember Pearl Bailey knocking 'em dead back in the 1940s. And this week Pearl's having a birthday. I think we owe her a round of applause, a Thank You, and Happy Birthday.
You know, Pearl, that song you did from St. Louis Woman "Legalize My Name", that was 1946. Well, I looked up the 1946 season, just to see what else was happening. And in the 12 months from when you opened in St. Louis Woman, we gave the world Call Me Mister, Annie Get Your Gun, Finian's Rainbow, Brigadoon, and a dozen others. And that was just that year.
Broadway is one of America's most successful exports. Peoples all over the world sing our songs, and applaud our stars. We've been creating magic that has brought people together everywhere. And so is theater a force for peace? You bet. And I salute all the men and women of Broadway who've been reminding us for years of our common heritage as human beings. And I salute the wonderful performers we've had here this evening. Marvin, once again, thank you. Thank you also Pearl Bailey, Jerry Herman, Larry Kert, Judy Kuhn, Pamela Myers, and Jerry Orbach. I look forward to the following concerts in this Salute to Broadway. And I thank all of you again, and God bless all of you.
