I've read about it. It generated quite some fuss after which WeTransfer apparently changed the terms again. But according to an expert in the field the terms remain vague enough to allow them to use the transferred documents anyway. I won't use it anymore.

Valid alternatives? Jul 20, 2025

Could you colleagues recommend any trustable alternative file sharing platform, based on your experience?
They're all going a bit crazy with AI... something like that happened with Dropbox, if I remember well.

One way or another, as it's technically nearly impossible to have some effective outside control over what they are doing with any data coming their way, their 'backtracking' doesn't mean much.

A sceptic could say all it means is that they didn't manage to sneak into their T&C what they are doing anyway, as plenty other sites have done without anyone making a fuss. For comparison, next time you're asked to 'accept cookies' read instead the details of what you are asked to accept - and you might discover that very often cookies are merely the beginning of it, the least intrusive in the whole list.

I am seriously considering setting up my own FTP server for the rare occasion that I need to upload and/or download large files. I am yet to really look into it, but there do appear to be plenty of regionally relevant solutions (e.g. in the EU in my case) for reasonable monthly rates. Actually owning your stuff seems to be the last reasonable possibility to preserve your and your clients' files from predatory practices.

No, and I don't care to work for them.
