Mix Mar 20, 2025

I receive a good mix of conventional translation and post-editing requests. I hope to find some time rather sooner than later to start keeping records of it, because it would be really interesting to know the exact ratio between conventional translation and MTPE, and how it evolves over the years.

Specialized human translation Mar 20, 2025

All my customers insist on human translation. The only machine-assisted job I’ve done so far was two years ago: circa 50,000 words on Italian tourist sites (IT/PT). Some parts were pretty good but then lot of it didn't make any sense. I had to keep my eyes skinned…

I get what I accept Mar 20, 2025

My clients have no say in the process: they send me a text and I decide what instruments I want to use in order to get the job done: glossaries, dictionaries, CAT, help from my wife, MT, AI, the internet in general, my client, or whatever. Sometimes - though it doesn't seem to work that well any more - even my own brain...

I did more post-editing in the past Mar 20, 2025

I used to do more post-editing in the past, with Machine Translation. I think that the use of AI depend on the clients, and those who use it most of the time don't deem it necessary to do any post-editing, because "it's good enough".
Of course there are exceptions to this and, as someone else said, I do what I accept. Most of the time AITPE has ridiculous rates, so it's not even worth it to accept those jobs.

On the other hand, I'm getting a lot of specialized human translation request, from clients that understand the importance of accurate translation for their business, in particular in the field I work in, Fintech, in which accuracy is of foremost importance because errors could mean a huge loss of money (think of stocks trading).

Specialized human translation Mar 20, 2025

I am not claiming that this is a general trend, it's just that my clients keep sending me regular translation jobs, and I'm OK with it.
