I enjoy the polls and check them daily. I don’t mind at all when they shy away from professional subject matters, occasionally I just want to have fun… | | | | Liena V. Letónia Local time: 20:13 Membro (2014) Francês para Letão + ...
This is a random question, isn't it? If "strictly related to the translation industry" means more of the same old MT and AI topics, I'll rather discuss anything else. These polls are just an office coffee room to me and there is always an option to ignore them. | | | | | No one is forcing you to vote | Dec 18, 2024 |
If you aren't interested in the poll, don't vote. It's simple.

Polls may raise highly relevant questions and spark off good discussions, but they can never stand alone.
The other forums are best for real business.
I reckon these polls are for coffee breaks and relaxation. They may give a special translators´ view of the rest of the world, and it would be difficult to set limits anyway. If they get too close to private life, it is always possible to spring over for a day or two. | | | | Sofia Bengoa Espanha Local time: 19:13 Membro (2005) Inglês para Espanhol + ... | 'Translation' embraces other not so random questions | Dec 18, 2024 |
There are many other questions that touch the translation industry, which realte to wellbeing, gym, funny obsessions, garments, best working hours or the environment for working. In the end, they affect the industry and translators.
This information may be valuable to get to know the workers of the industry in general terms.

And, why not? some may be only for fun. I answered a similar one to this below many years ago:

That polls are supposed to be a part of our "facial features" - looks and first impression of the professional translation site, while everything else should fall under Off-Top Unlimited. See more That polls are supposed to be a part of our "facial features" - looks and first impression of the professional translation site, while everything else should fall under Off-Top Unlimited. Say, if I knew that some site I'm potentially interested in has public poll section, I'd go there first. But that's me... I fully agree that there are several areas we could branch into like lifestyle and wellness related to occupational hazards, outstanding translations of the great new books most recently read (looking for agrees or dissenting opinions, for example), and so on and so forth. But things borderlining morning bathroom "approach count" (a space term, no kidding, everything is being calculated up there:-) ) are indeed quite embarrassing for the front page. No wonder that on average we get between 3 and 7 discussion participants out of this whole huge crowd. Kinda bleak, if you ask me.
The notion that there is no hope that 300000 professional site members can find any interesting and important translation-related topics for polls, and allegedly can't rise above MT/AI discussions, is very sad and discouraging indeed...

No. I believe we are a group of professionals, we can use some random questions to add to our daily activity.

ProZ Polls are the least relevant issue translators have these days and as such, can have any theme whatsoever.
