I work straight through the year. I used to take long vacations when my children were still at home, but they are long gone and we haven’t spent vacations together for some time (trying to get all of them agreeing on the same date and place is an almost impossible task…). I enjoy having days off here and there between jobs, rather than long vacations. It all adds up probably to more than 4/5 weeks a year, but I’m not counting! | | | | Liena V. I used to take longer vacations when I was traveling far away, but haven't done it in the past few years. I still take long weekends or a day or two off whenever I need to, but there is no point to have an official vacation. If I'm staying home and have nothing better to do, I might as well be working. | | | | | Life's a holiday | May 11, 2022 |
The concept of "holidays" implies that you have a boring life. That doesn't apply to me. I have never gone on holiday and don't want to.

I haven't taken a "proper" holiday since 2018, but plan to take over 2 weeks off this year for a study tour to Italy combined with a long weekend exploring the cultural attractions of London on the way home.
Coincidentally, I just came back from my two-week holiday on Monday.
But I took my laptop with me to finish some work on the first two days. After that, it was all family and friends. Now I have had my much needed break, I am ready to get back to work.

Can a "study tour to Italy" be written off as a non-taxable expense? | | | | Thayenga Alemanha Local time: 08:11 Membro (2009) Inglês para Alemão + ... | More than 2 weeks | May 11, 2022 |
I've already taken 10 days this year and will take another 10 - 11 days in June. The "real" vacation will be in September and/or October, most probably 2 - 3 weeks.

I had planned a multi-week trip to Poland, Slovakia and Ukraine for this month. Since my spirit of adventure died some years ago, I decided to reconsider. Instead I hope to go to Ireland in the fall. | | | | | My glass overfloweth | May 11, 2022 |

Life is indeed a holiday.
I've never done a day's work and I never intend to. | | | | | A couple of weeks for the whole year | May 11, 2022 |
I took some days off during Easter and
I am planning on a short week to visit domestic islands in Denmark this summer.
At the end of the year there will probably be some days over Christmas/New Year.
- And like others have mentioned, if I need a day here and there I can just plan for it a few days ahead.
I sure appreciate this freedom of freelance-life!

Being a freelancer I really don't see the need.

I try not to have fewer than four weeks off during the year overall, except during disease or war outbreaks, civil unrest, commodity shortages or acts of God (and us).
Nowadays in smaller chunks because my descent is no longer an excuse to disappear for a month in a row.

Spot on. I can afford four weeks and I deserve them so completely. | | | | | Don't Know For Sure | May 11, 2022 |
I haven't been back to the New England area, and my favorite American big city, Boston, since 1978. I have often done things, even traveling, as a kind of a spur of the moment phenomenon. But it's always at the back of my mind, ever since, as a young college student, I flew across the pond so I could live and study in Madrid, which was probably the best time of my life, in so many ways.
