... I couldn't care less.

I don't think that translation is a particularly good career choice if this is what you want. Sadly, literary translators are usually not even mentioned on the cover of their books (this should change, IMO). Business translators remain completely anonymous. It's also inherent to our work: the better the translation, the more invisible it is.

I suppose it's always comforting to have your work acknowledged and appreciated, but I can't see "public recognition", which I equate with the current tacky phenomenon of "celebrity", as a goal or even a concern. I think I'd prefer to have fortune without fame.

Nonetheless, this morning I was pleasantly surprised to receive the following email notification:

Tiempo de entrega
Relación calidad/precio
Relación con el proveedor

Porcentaje de pedidos satisfactorios: 100 %
Evaluación: POSITIVA"

Which was nice:-)

Not at all! It never crossed my mind. Fame and fortune are not something that interests me. The only recognition I have been looking for is from my customers through repeat work.

It's always nice to have your work appreciated and recognized by your clients, which in my case is actually the sign that I'm doing things right.
For me, being recognized by my colleagues is equally important.
If you're doing a good job, you're bound to be known. Good news travels fast!

What a strange question! I'm happy to get any compliments that come my way, and I'm happy to get paid of course, I wouldn't expect any more for a translation. If I wanted public recognition, I'd have been a film star or an astronaut or something like that.

As others have stated, getting repeat work is all the recognition I need.

Title or not is a thing Dec 23, 2021

It is possible to become a celerity if you translate novels, at least in China. In fact, there are quite a few translator-celebrities in that country.

Probably it is not a bad thing to become a celebrity.

I just want my name mentioned on the checks, wires, and ACH payments. When the money arrives, I find many ways to satisfy my ambitions and desires:-).

Now that I have become an author in my own right, it doesn't hurt that one of those translations is listed on my Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/27171887-mexico-and-the-united-states-in-the-oil-controversy-1917-1942

As for the rest of my work, the grist of the mill, I could care less.
