But where exactly depends very much on what I am doing. If I am translating I either sit at my desk in my little cozy study, surrounded by dictionaries, encyclopedias and reference books or, weather permitting, I’ll enjoy my garden table on the terrace. since 1979 ... | | | | | No beach option?! | Dec 21, 2021 |
I like to alternate between my private yacht and the beach, although as I get older I do find the glare off the screen more of a problem. And if I do sit in the shade, there’s still that annoying reflection of an increasingly shrivelled prune staring back at me. First-world problems I guess.
Waiter, bring me another cocktail.

Nowadays it's always from my dedicated workspace at home. In peace and quiet because I live alone and undisturbed except for when my cat decides it's time to jump up, sit on my keyboard, and demand some TLC.

Until a few years ago when I was still teaching in another city, I used to translate on the train coming and going, and during dead periods in my office at the university. I also used to take holidays in a historic country house owned by a rich friend of mine, in the hills just outside Florence, where I was able to sit in the shade of a loggia overlooking a beautiful garden, translating. Alas, the rich friend has gone the way of all rich and spoilt people. So that ship has sailed.

I have a private office at home. I almost never work in another place, maybe because my main computer is a desktop with two large monitors and an ergonomic keyboard. It is hard for me to limit myself to a laptop because I don't like to carry any gadget except a mouse.

Better for me to get out of the house to work, because even with traveling time, I tend to stay on task and be more productive in the end when I'm at a Starbucks, restaurant, or college or public library. Too many distractions here at home. But Ohio will soon descend into the deep freeze; so it's comforting to know I can stay right here at home to work, instead of hazarding falling on the ice or being surrounded by a sudden, unexpected snowstorm while I'm driving my car.

but once I translated on a bus when I was going to university on my mobile but it is an experience I wouldn't repeat- the movement of the bus upset me and the small screen of the mobile made my eyes water and I finished up with a terrible headache and stomach upset but like that, I didn't miss the lecture and I finished the work on time and with time to proofread it well. But I definitely won't repeat the experience. | | | | Robert Rietvelt Local time: 17:12 Membro (2006) Espanhol para Holandês + ... | From my private tower | Dec 21, 2021 |
I bought an empty office building for 14 million Euro in the financial district of Amsterdam, so I have all the necessary space and quiet to work.
NO, OF COURSE NOT! 99% of the freelancers are working from home! Follow the news, and you know. What kind of open door question is this? (and not for the first time).
All dear respondents, haven't you got anything better to do then anwering these kind of nonsense polls?
I am wondering.
