I pay 12% on my pension (my pension is paid by the EU) and 21% on my business. I’m exempt from paying social security taxes (I’m covered by the EU social security).

In Pakistan, there is no social security contribution, and income from freelancing is tax-exempted.

I'm not really sure overall. That's the kind of thing I leave to my accountant. I'm really not interested in the admin side of things, and it's the part of being a self-employed translator that I dislike the most.

Off the top of my head, I know that my income tax withholdings (which the client holds back and should pay to the tax authority) are currently 15%, although sometimes at the end of the year I have to top up the annual amount, if I have exceeded some kind of threshold. And

Off the top of my head, I know that my income tax withholdings (which the client holds back and should pay to the tax authority) are currently 15%, although sometimes at the end of the year I have to top up the annual amount, if I have exceeded some kind of threshold. And translations or other similar services are subject to 21% VAT in Spain, but many of my clients are universities and educational or research institutes, so any work I do for them is tax exempt. I also pay just over €300 a month in Social Security contributions, which I don't mind now that I'm earning enough, but it was very difficult when starting out, as some months I didn't earn much more than that. And, just for the record, I'm very happy with the service I receive for my social security contributions, such as medical treatment. However, the pension entitlement isn't great, and would not be enough to cover my rent, so I'm lucky that I can keep working to pay the bills.

It depends Aug 5, 2021

I operate as a company and it depends on whether I pay myself a salary and how big it is, as well as on other factors, like, how much of my gross income is a profit.

My business would normally be taxed 22%, the same as salary from a regular job, but my accountant is very good and finding deductions.

None of your damn business!

How much more intrusive are these poll questions going to get? Where do we draw the line?

I draw it here.
