I was married to one for 25 years.
It certainly made it easier to talk about the challenges faced during my working day, whether linguistic or customer-related.
Now I’m going out with a sailor and I find it refreshing to hear stories about a completely different line of work.

I’ve never thought of dating a translator though it would have been a good idea as he would probably understand how chaotic my job can be and that some projects need to be completed at inconvenient times. Anyway, my dating years are long gone…

A couple of weeks ago I've been proposed – jokingly but very publicly – by one of the very best here, and nobody is going to take that away from me, nevah evah evah!

...for a few decades, so yes. Who else can understand that everything needs to be in a context? Or 3 a.m. deadlines? Or being essentially a few different persons in several different languages? A better question would be - can you ever date anyone monolingual? Unimaginable.

If you look above, you'll see I've even agreed with Mr Grey from Cluedo on this one, and it was in the office with the mouse. If we whinge about our translations all on our own all the time, who wants to hear the same sorry old stuff about deadlines and payment and revisions from someone else at our side all the time?
I'd rather hear "We've got to roll out this project by next week", "Supplier X screwed up again", "That Sharon from Accounts really gets up my nose with those silicon... I'd rather hear "We've got to roll out this project by next week", "Supplier X screwed up again", "That Sharon from Accounts really gets up my nose with those siliconed orbs she keeps shoving out for the lads in the office", "Fred's in prison in Málaga after a punch-up in a bar in Fuengirola over a jar of sangría, and I have to cover for the stupid twat" etc. etc. Much more relaxing. ▲ Collapse

Even so, I'm worried about the possible tautology. It's possible that all pedants are boring. If so, the "boring" would be redundant.
