On New Year’s Eve I’ll be alone. Usually many of my relatives phone me around midnight, a few live abroad (Mexico, Belgium, Canada, UK). On the 1st of January we use to have lunch altogether (10 to 15 people), this year for obvious reasons it will be a “very select committee”. Best wishes for 2021! | | | | Angus Stewart Reino Unido Local time: 02:08 Francês para Inglês + ... | feel there is nothing to celebrate | Dec 29, 2020 |
This year I will feel that there is nothing to celebrate, because New Year coincides with the UK's full departure from the EU's sphere of orbit. | | | | Mervyn Henderson (X) Espanha Local time: 03:08 Espanhol para Inglês + ... | The little things | Dec 29, 2020 |
There'll always be the little things in life to celebrate, Angus. Oh look, there's one ... life itself. Quite a big one, really, being alive. Brexit or no Brexit.

[EDIT Having misunderstood the OP's question, I have revised my post to say that I will spend New Year's Eve at home with my family. New Year's Day is also an important date in my wife's culture, so there will be some minor celebration in the form of food and communications.]

Beyond that, in the New Year I will continue the approach I took in 2020, which is to avoid catastrophising about things that I cannot change, such as coronavirus or Brexit. In addition, for 2021 I shall try to give myself a good kick when I feel I'm getting too full of myself / complacent / pompous. [Thinks: might be a painful year.]
In terms of mundane matters, I will do a bit more marketing as an extension of long-running efforts to diversify my client base. I need to be careful as badly-managed success can be as much of a problem as failure. Having said that, work has not been too badly affected in 2020 and I'm hoping I will be able to make similar (or even more positive comments) at the end of 2021.
On the personal front, in 2020 I quit alcohol for a year, lost 20kg in weight, and started working with a regularly with a personal trainer again (COVID permitting).
For 2021 I'm planning to maintain those habits, and I'm also considering a self-imposed ban on buying any new books until I have read all the books I have already bought. These are mostly of the category identified by Italo Calvino as "the Books You've Been Planning To Read For Ages" but of course I already own them, which makes it worse.

...do absolutely nothing.
Celebrate with my daughter, who is not part of my usual household.
My neighbors (en elderly couple) will come by for some of the time.
Happy New Year to All!

Now that I’ve finally gotten over British people calling it New Year’s, rather than New Year’s Eve or New Year...
... I think I might take the first train out of Tomville and head on over to Mervtown for a party...
... except corona...
... ah well, there’s nothing better than a broken phallic clock and televised fireworks to make you love life again.

Through the US New Year.
After tanning, swimming, snorkeling, wining and dining in Aruba for a Christmas week, I'm ready to fix some nice dishes for myself to keep the favorite family holiday and tradition alive. I will set and load the table the way my beloved but long gone dad loved it, turn on Skype and celebrate with my friends in St. Pete at 3 pm local; maybe watch an oldie and listen to some favorite music. Next day I'll pack some takeouts for my closest friends who'd been missing my cooking for a while. We'll meet somewhere outside. St Pete and my best friend's family over there would be the only place I'd go rather than staying at home for NY but this is out of the question... too bad. They both went through corona but luckily came out of it fairly easily. BTW, after her mom's death, my friend took her 86-year old father in to live with them in the same flat. The guy suffers every illness in the world, save oncology, and smokes for 70 years out of 86. He never got sick!
On the other hand, I don't want to betray my cats; it's a family holiday after all.

The plan is to spend at least one day with my wife's family, although I would really like to work. The crisis in Brazil is getting even worse, 14 million unemployed. There is nothing to celebrate really though, as we have the crisis in Brazil and also that terrible Brexshit which will be very bad for everyone - except Farage of course, who see his ego rise to new heights. And the lack of translation jobs, which is terrible here. And coronavirus, that our president once called 'a small flu'. ▲ Collapse

Goodness gracious me, somebody's created a monster here!
Have a care, you Portuguese revellers you, because you might get accidentally kicked in the face by that translator lady strutting around on the bar as you're sipping your champagne on Thursday evening.
And you're welcome to come and join in the festivities in Mervtown, Chris, but don't think it'll be the Funkyville Arizona you imagine. You know the years have flown past when you can actually remember the events ... See more Goodness gracious me, somebody's created a monster here!

And you're welcome to come and join in the festivities in Mervtown, Chris, but don't think it'll be the Funkyville Arizona you imagine. You know the years have flown past when you can actually remember the events of the night of 31 December on the morning of 1 January. Not to mention finding yourself in the kitchen placidly fixing breakfast at 9 or 10 am to kick off the New Year, with nary a stolen traffic cone in sight. ▲ Collapse | | | | Rebecca Garber Local time: 21:08 Membro (2005) Alemão para Inglês + ... | I will absolutely stay up until midnight | Dec 29, 2020 |
