I always take care of due diligence, do not work with companies (translation agencies or direct clients) with bad reviews, and if I can't really find anything about them but it doesn't feel good, I don't proceed. As a result, I hardly have to send any payment reminders at all, and I've never had a non-payment issue in six years.

I do check any new clients, although I'm not sure my checks are really thorough enough. I haven't ever been scammed: thanks to accounts I've read in the scam section here, I have been able to recognise fishy emails as such. Touching wood nevertheless!
