Technology in itself has no will of its own (whatever GenAI's "thought leaders" are trying to bullshit us into believing) and thus can be used for good and bad purposes. It's the people factor that makes or breaks a technology. And right here is where we have the massive problem that GenAI is being overhyped by professional scammers and bullshitters. Yes, I am directly thinking of Scama and Suckerberg.

I clicked on the link and had to read this terrible AI-generated introduction in French:

« La technologie et le progrès technologique font partie des idées les plus excessivement déterminées qui façonnent la vie moderne et, historiquement, les employeurs se sont servis de ces concepts pour dominer les travailleurs. » Sur l’image, un entrepôt (avec des robots de distribution) de la société chinoise STO Express à Zhengzhou (Chine), novembre 2017.

Jesus...Those who understand French at a native level will see how bad the translation is.

This 'French version' does sound awful / unnatural [ça écorche les oreilles] - but all I get from this link
https://www.equaltimes.org/the-promise-of-new-technologies-is
is a text in English. I might object to some ideas expressed in it, but surely not to the writing style.

Where this 'AI translation' of yours came from? OK, I see https://www.equaltimes.org/la-promesse-des-nouvelles ...

As always with uncorrected (/ hastily 'cosmetically enhanced') AI, some parts sound about right but from time to time you get brutally reminded of the limits of MT/AI & Co.

Yes, quite ironic!

As for 'the promise of new technologies' it is ALWAYS about getting some competitve advantage for the benefit of whoever is financing the research - and **surely not for anyone else**. The 'abolition of work' was NEVER the goal - at best a side effect that could be used to give good PR to the whole gig.

IOW the whole premise of this article is skewed from the start ...

I think technology would steal our spouses and poison our water supply.
